Upright Women Wanted - Sarah Gailey
If you are into post-apocalyptic fiction involving brave women who risk their lives to love who they want to love then Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey will be right up your alley. More of a novella than novel, it’s the story Esther who hides in the Librarian’s book wagon to get away from a life that is being forced on her, and a loss that continues to break her heart. But it is also the story of Bet, Leda, and Cye, three librarians who deliver books all over the American Southwest, as well as hidden material pertaining to resistance and freedom from oppression, patriarchy, and fascism. When the librarians pick up a “package” along the way the ride becomes a lot wilder, and more dangerous, and Esther is given the chance to become the person she always knew she was.
The world that Sarah Gailey creates in Upright Women Wanted is one that is so believable, and only a few clicks removed from our existing world - one that we can all see happening if we are not careful enough.
This is a really great read, one of my favorite books of 2021, and one that I would love to see a sequel of. Esther has so much more to give in my opinion!
