Here is this month's photo album: Luna Marlena's 11th Month (some of the photos of Luna and me were taken by my mother while she was here last week <3)
So this is the last but one monthly installment as we are coming to the end of Luna's first year. There will of course be regular updates moving forward, just not as regular... I plan on doing the same thing for the next little one's first year too :).
11 months old!! I find it hard to believe that our tiny little baby is nearly a year old! She's grown into a little child with moods and thoughts and a really strong personality (I'm sure we are going to have some fun terrible two moments when she can't get her way in the future...). I feel so completely blessed to be a mother to this amazing little being.
What has this last month brought us? No first unassisted steps yet, but they aren't for long now, a few more weeks and she will be off. She loves to "walk" around, holding onto anything around her, sometimes stands upright and completely still, contemplating her next move, and then thinks the better of it and grabs ahold of something. She's being cautious I suppose. Walking is not an easy feat when only 11 months ago you couldn't even roll from your back to your tummy!
As I was silently hoping, Luna decided this month that she wanted to eat everything in sight, especially if Cesar and I are eating it. She now has 3 full meals a day, snacks and is pretty happy to try anything. I still haven't given her any meat yet... I suppose I had better start at some point, at least to give her a taste of it. I hover between the fact that her iron levels are perfect so far so I don't see why meat is an absolute necessity and then the other side, thinking that even though I am vegetarian I should at least give her the choice. Cesar eats meat, so I may just leave it up to him. In any case, I'm not in a rush.
So far the favourites are brie cheese, hummus, bread, peanut butter, spaghetti with tomato sauce, scrambled eggs, avocado, cucumbers and tomatoes. Carrots are fine in a puree, but are secretly thrown on the floor when steamed. She still loves apple puree and frozen banana slices, mango and papaya. I'm going to try grapes this week, and anything else that I make for lunch and dinner. It also depends on the day, some days she loves everything, others she just prefers her Cheerios. For some reason I wanted to avoid introducing Cheerios as I didn't want her living off of them, but actually they were the main tool in teaching her to chew and swallow correctly, and not gag every time she put something in her mouth! And they are an awesome tool of distraction - throw a few on the high chair tray and you have 10 minutes of peace to prepare a meal!
The growth in interest in food came around the same time that I felt my milk supply start to drop... I knew this was going to happen at some point, I'm just hoping my body will hold out for a few more weeks at least, or even level out. She still nurses often through-out the day and at night, I just don't think she's filling up her tummy as much as she was before (more about this in another post later this week!). As long as she is getting all if the nourishment she needs, I am happy. Especially if she is actually enjoying foods! And Brie... I mean there is no surprise there really.
Luna now has 7 teeth!! It's funny to think that at the end of November last year she had none, and 3 months later she has 7! Her top 4 actually all came out within a couple of weeks, 2 and 2 together. While teething pains were bad in the past, they didn't seem so horrendous when they were actually coming through for some reason. I can now only hope for a little break, which I doubt any of us will get!
I think the cutest part of this month was when Luna's friend Xavier came to play, and she spent a good part of an hour chasing him and trying to kiss him! I don't know if this bodes well for the future but it was adorable watching him trying to play and her grabbing him around the waist and trying to kiss him on the cheek!! They've known each other since Luna was about 3 or 4 months and Xavier 4 or 5 months, and it's great to see how their interactions evolve (and it's great for me to be able to hang out with Ebedet!).
While our little chatterbox now "talks" to us constantly (and to herself which is even more adorable), her words are limited to "Dada", "MaMA!", "Da" (cat) and "Nana" (Grandma). She also talks to her teddy bears, kisses and cuddles them. It's so sweet! I feel like this past month she started to really show when she likes something and when she dislikes something. She loves to mimic new things and is a little obsessed with Baby Mozart. Another funny thing that happened this month was her sudden dislike for her little bathtub! One day she was fine splashing in it and the next she started screaming when I tried to put her in it! This from someone who has never screamed when being bathed, not even her first time. So I made the long overdue move from the little tub in the big tub to just the big tub, we bought some extra bath toys and she loves it! Lets me wash her hair without complaints and brings me Devil Duck whenever I ask her to (a big red rubber duck with horns on it that was actually a gift from my sister to me years ago – Luna loves it).
We decided long ago what we would be doing for Luna’s first birthday and I hope she will enjoy it. More about that next time, most likely after her birthday. We are now going to enjoy some much needed sunshine and over freezing temperatures!!
