I’m running a little late on this one as I’ve been sick for the past week, and working on some other assignments. It’s been hard trying to fit everything in to each day lately!
We had a wonderful December, full of happiness, surprises and a lot of food! I wrote a piece about Christmas HERE. It really was wonderful! We had so much fun preparing for it, searching for the perfect presents, cooking on Christmas Eve and again on Christmas Day (we had to bring the traditions from both of our countries together!). I had this idea for a silly Santa photo where we all dressed in back and didn’t smile, and it worked out perfectly. I didn’t think we would be able to get Luna to sit on Santa’s lap, but she was actually fine, not a tear was shed, and we managed to get the perfect Addams Family-esque photo done for Christmas. I still laugh every time I see it!
We finally seem to have got past the sleep regression that had been plaguing us since November, with Luna not going to sleep until nearly midnight and waking up at 8 or 9 and then fighting every single nap. She seems to have naturally dropped one nap and is back going to sleep between 7 and 9pm, up a few times at night and then awake between 7 and 9 in the morning. Much more respectable! She still sleeps with us, but now I tend to just go to bed with her and read on my phone as she likes to pull herself up on the crib when she wakes up and I don’t want her rolling off the end of the bed. We are just going to transfer her back to the crib when she’s ready, which I am sure she will be at some point. It’s just easier for us all as she still wakes up several times a night anyway.
We have had our first words, with “Mama” and “Dada” being used when she wants us and directed at us. It still melts my heart when I am in the kitchen and hear “Mama!!” from the living room, and then see my little munchkin standing in her baby jail waiting for me to come and pick her up. Still no walking yet, but she is getting there, pulling herself around via the furniture and standing practically alone, barely holding onto something with one hand. Her newest thing is to stand up on the couch and throw herself against one big cushion so she bounces right into our arms. This means that the couch is a no go unless she is surrounded by one of us and a million cushions!
We had our first snow storm! We dressed Luna in her snowsuit and hat and gloves and took her out into the snow – it was so much fun! We didn’t stay out for too long because it was freezing out, but it was a great laugh! I’m looking forward to the next one. I keep thinking back to the 4 months of snow that we had last year and waddling through the ice and snow for what felt like forever! I can’t believe that in 3 months Luna will be a year old already!
She’s grown so fast into such a delightful, happy child. Always exploring, fearless, full of smiles and laughter and brings so much joy into our lives every single second of every single day. And did I mention that she loves to dance?! I must get a video of her bopping up and down to The Cure and Marilyn Manson!
