The End of the Rainbow - James Forker

It’s impossible to read James Forker’s memoir without crying several times. I was literally bawling my eyes out at the end, because I knew how it was going to end, but I just didn’t want it to go that way. Cancer is so evil, so indiscriminate, and so random, and it rips people from their lives, from the lives of their loved ones, without any consideration or thought.

The End of the Rainbow is a beautifully written memoir about how it is to lose the person you love the most to cancer. James Forker has created a gorgeous lasting image of his wife Jen, a legacy of her beauty inside and out, of her spirit, and of her ability to always light up a room, wherever she was. This memoir is also a story of tremendous courage and resilience, of love, and an inspiration to all of us. Despite every piece of terrible news that Jen received after her initial cancer diagnosis, she never failed to be there for everyone around her. I wish I had personally known her because I think we would have been friends, but thanks to her husband I feel like I do. I won’t be able to see a rainbow now without thinking about Jen, a woman who I never met, but who I will always remember. I love how the author added extract’s from Jen’s journal to illustrate his own words. It really helped build the image of this wonderful woman in my mind.

Thank you Jim for writing this book, your love for your wife and your kids, and her love for you all, shine through your words on every single page. This must have been such a difficult book to write, but I’m so glad you did.
